Meet Lynn Gant: The Man Behind the Canvas

Veteran. Technologist. Teacher. Storyteller. Artist.

Every painting tells a story — and so does the artist behind the brush.
For Lynn Gant, art isn’t just a hobby. It’s a lifelong expression of faith, culture, community, and transformation.

✍️ A Kansas City Native with a Creative Soul

Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Lynn has always been drawn to the beauty in the everyday — the soft light hitting a flower, the boldness of a silhouette, the quiet dignity of a portrait. His early interest in drawing and painting led him to study art formally at Penn Valley Community College, and later at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art in 1986.

But Lynn’s journey wasn’t limited to galleries or sketchbooks.

💻 A Career in Service & Technology

Lynn dedicated over 28 years of his life to serving the City of Kansas City — first as an Administrative Assistant, and eventually as an I.T. Supervisor. There, he managed systems, led teams, and helped modernize citywide infrastructure — proving that creativity and problem-solving go hand in hand.

🎖️ Marine. Mentor. Community Man.

Before his work in city government, Lynn proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer Platoon Commander. His leadership and discipline from the Corps carried over into every chapter of his life.

He also gives back to the community as a Sunday School teacher and Taekwondo instructor, encouraging youth to express themselves with confidence and heart.

🖌️ Retirement Rekindled the Flame

After retiring from his full-time I.T. career, Lynn returned to his first love: painting. With a renewed passion, he began creating works that reflect both technical precision and emotional depth. His pieces range from photorealistic florals to cultural portraits, surreal symbolism, and Afrocentric elegance.

Under the name “Lynn Gant Casual-Artist,” his work has been featured in regional exhibits and events like the 18th & Vine Arts Festival and Beauty Noir, celebrating Black artistry across Kansas City.

🧡 Art with Meaning

Lynn’s paintings aren’t just beautiful — they’re layered with symbolism, spiritual themes, and storytelling. Whether it’s a dove soaring into blue skies or a quiet tribute to a mother, every canvas holds intention.

As Lynn often says:

“I may be casual in how I approach my art, but I’m serious about the message.”
